For example, today I was asked how to get a certain value in a cell if BOTH values in two other cells were 0, and to get another value in the cell if EITHER of the other two cells was NOT 0.

Let's use some examples.

Cell A1 = 0. Cell B1 = 0. If BOTH cells A1 and B1 are 0, we want C1 to have the value TRUE.

If EITHER A1 or B1 contains a non-zero value, we want C1 to say FALSE.

=IF(AND(A1=0,B1=0),"TRUE","FALSE")

This is a perfect example of a more advanced Excel topic, because it involves logic and a nested function. A nested function is when we use one function INSIDE of another one. In this case, we used the AND function to determine if A1=0 AND B1=0.

As long as both conditions are true, AND will return a true value to the IF function.

The AND function is a very special function that tests multiple conditions and determines if condition 1 AND condition 2 are true. If they are, a true value is returned. If either condition is NOT true, a false is returned.
